If any of you have been wondering why there has been a lack of Dick and Joan on the Miracle Channel recently, well I think the headline speaks for itself. It was announced in church today (Dominion Gateway Centre and Victory Church of Lethbridge) by a very tearful Dick and Joan, that they will no longer be heading up the Miracle Channel. They have stepped down and Ray and Donna Block have been asked (and I believe they accepted) to run the channel. Wayne and Rose Boersma, formerly of Victory church in Brooks have been asked to take over the Pastorship of Dominion Gateway.
Without going into too much detail (I would like to speak with Tim before I say much more), I hope all those who are affected negatively by this news realize that this is not what God is all about. We are all human and we all have the potential to disappoint others and God. I hope that real Christianity does not take a hit because of the actions of those who have wandered off the path Christ has set before us.

Dick and Joan Resign from the Miracle Channel

This will undoubtedly be of great disappointment to the followers of Dick and Joan. The unfortunate part is there will be a great number who will wonder why and may never know the whole truth.
By Dick choosing to live a life in the public eye, he should have known that sooner or later people would begin to question his private "affairs".
Maybe it's time to consider a re-write of "Lessons for Leaders".
Another interesting point is that the "Message from the President" has been removed from the Miracle Channel website and Dick's teaching materials are no longer available through TMC's online bookstore.
I can't say I know all the details surrounding Dick's departure but I do know that usually the only way a fish gets pulled from the water is by being caught.

A sad day for thousands... in more than one way... but when accountability starts to be felt and is welcomed, changes can be expected. Hearts will feel the knife or circumcision ... it's painful but necessary.
Humility is the best attitude and the only true way to see this through. God can restore what has been shaken to its foundations and broken. He can't do much with hardened and opportunistic hearts but to use them as signs that He still is in control, and as they fall they would have no excuse. But from what I heard so far, there is brokenness in that house.
The way back "home" to the Father's embrace and restoring love is not blocked to anyone, it's going to be tough, but if the process is embraced with accountability and humble perseverance, it's possible.
Let all that has been built by man fall under the breath of God's merciful judgment, so that new life can have a chance to spring forth. And when embraced corporately, repentance with fruits following has the ability to spread a fire of purity and revival. And that is what I contend and hope for.
I pray those affected find the resources of His grace more than sufficient as they go through the purging fire of God... and may they know that somebody is not gloating or rejoicing over the catastrophies, but that any rejoicing would be solely with regards to the fact that hearts are exposed and called to change, unto life, and that out of this God will separate the precious from the vile, individually and corporately, streamlining theologies and aspirations. Much depends on what agendas those who come alongside or take over will favor.
Adonai, God of deliverances, Father, let Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth, as it is done and decreed in heaven. Guide us by Your Light...

Andre.
Look further down the page to the broader explanation using the illustration of the Beatitudes where the same greek word is translated several different ways ...without explanation.
The Lockman's were highly motivated effective Christians who were able to hire a team of people who were asked to make the Bible more understandable. There are some ...including me .....that believe that their methods of selection in creating the team appear lacking when compared with other scholarly pursuits resulting in Bible Translation.
As you can tell from my answer to you that the word "add" in the Bible reference does not necessarily mean that the method whereby you "achieve" virtue is simply through faith ...or a natural product of faith ....or without faith. That does not preclude the necessity that you develop virtue and then "add" it sequentially in the Christian growth pattern outlined in that scripture.
RE: throwing vinegar around
As mentioned to you before I do not wish to participate in "vain" strivings and contentions about the law ( Titus) and I have admonished you once before to consider making any discussion we have of this nature to be in the spirit of agape love.

According to a report aired today on Global Television in Calgary, Ray Block is expected to issue a press release tomorrow (May 22). We are not sure what will be in the release but we will post the details as soon as we find out.

I have no interest to gloat or celebrate Dick and Joan's apparent troubles, yet I will not be praying for them to be comforted at this time. My prayers for reconciliation and comfort go out to all those who have been led astray and abused by TMC's teachings.
I won't wish them any harm, that would be like kicking a wounded animal and would likely have a similar result. No, when people like Dick and Joan get caught with there pants down (no one knows for sure yet but that may possibly be an appropriate phrase to use here) they are likely so far gone that they would have a hard time recovering. I know God can work with them, but would they be willing to listen.

BrotherKen: Yes, that is a most important point you're making.
My heart does go to all those who have trusted, and will find themselves shaking their heads and staring wide-eyed into the tube, wondering what it is they missed, where they could have gone wrong. I'm sure many will extend grace, but hopefully wisdom will also now become an essential part of their zeal. Hopefully again, believers will start thinking twice now before committing to supporting a Christian broadcaster or ministry which displays the same attitude. I know I'm told by certain MC leader that they are seeing this as a season of correction and alignment. God forbid it will be business as usual... I'm eager to see some stand up and take a stand, make a statement.
It's been a difficult ride for those who have openly spoken about the questionable fundraising strategies, and the questionable theologies and attitudes. It seems that now, many of us will be vindicated in a way, for all the years this situation has tainted TMC leaders judgment and discernment. One can only hope that those who wish, will exercise their right (and maybe duty?), to speak through the voice of their pledges, taking a stand for purity and integrity.
How can the tree be good if the fruit is not? I think many at TMC will have to revise the nature and extent of their commitment. Hopefully (I'm a hopeful guy...), it will give rise to a spirit of repentance that will revolutionize people from the heart up.
It's time Canada weighs the true burden of ministry: man seeks success, God seeks fruitfulness. The cross is the great equalizer, the kingdom is what we are to seek.

This is a nice beginning and we would all hope significant changes to the content and flavor of The Miracle Channel's broadcasts as a consequence of Dr. Dick & Joans resignation would result. But as of today, the cuts haven't gone nearly deep enough to make any difference.

Firstly, allow me to confess that my first inclination was to have a lot of fun with this. Oh yes, I was going to draw an allegory between this and the story of the Three Little Piggies, straw houses and that sort of thing. Then God reminded me that it is not wise to glory in another man's downfall, and if He wanted me to continue to receive elucidation through His insight that i too had better regard His word more thoroughly, and thoughtfully. Thank You God, for not allowing my life to unravel similarly.
It is interesting to note the differing reasons given for Dick & Joan resigning from the MC. For instance DGC stated that it is due to Dick's health;while media sources report it is over controversy regarding the way they raise money. The Victory Church of Lethbridge official statement was different still, claiming that it was an immoral act that brought Dick down. Further investigation has revealed that a long standing, and well regarded, employee at Victory Church Lethbridge has elaborated even further still as to the nature of the immoral act of which they state Dick is guilty. According to this Victory Church source, Dick was having an affair, for over three years, with a former Miracle Channel employee's wife, We indeed, know the name of the source, as well as, the name of the other woman, and it should come as no surprise to others at the MC when the whole truth is finally revealed. It confirms suspicions I shared with my wife, and Ray Block, three years ago regarding my concerns over the unusually close relationship Dick and this married woman (who by the way, attended DGC, and also worked at the MC) appeared to share. Tim can confirm that i also shared my thoughts with him on this over a year ago.
So if I detected it (and the folks at the MC and DGC never regarded me as being particularly insightful) how blind must all the other sheep be to have missed what was obvious to my discerning eye?! Furthermore, I wonder how much of the donations to the MC were spent on the pursuit and concealment of this adulterous relationship?! Also ask yourselves, how will this affect the many Deweert family members employed at the MC? Will they still be made millionaires? If so, probably very embarrassed millionaires! What of Ryan Caldwell? Did he not once state something to the effect that he wouldnot have married Dick's daughter had he thought Dick was a hypocrite? Where does that leave their relationship Not to mention Joan, nationally embarrassed - you must suspect people will ask where was her prophetic discernment in that she couldn't see the wolf for all the sheep in the way! What of the donors who were (still are) duped by tricky Dicky - does Helena deserve a refund of the $12,000.00 donation she made during the previous power of partnership beg-o-thon?
Finally, I will ask again what i have aked many times before, HOW WILL THIS POSITIVELY AFFECT THE SPIRITUAL TEMPERATURE OF CANADA?

LastSpike, you wrote: "Finally, I will ask again what i have asked many times before, HOW WILL
THIS POSITIVELY AFFECT THE SPIRITUAL TEMPERATURE OF CANADA?"
First, it should affect the Church across the country. Hopefully people will not just say: "Yeah, but that wouldn't be ME" and turn away, forgetting to ask "What should we learn through this?"
It is my opinion that if we stayed silent while we should have spoken up, then we share the responsibility for what happened to this family, and this Christian ministry/corporation.
And my comment is certainly more specifically directed to the thousands of believers and hundreds of leaders in Lethbridge, Alberta. I can only wonder why discernment was so lacking as to allow this to go on for so long, while there were signs being visible that something was certainly wrong, somewhere, somehow, poking its head through the hyper-focus on prosperity, and the always questionable fundraising methods.
I'm not here to assign blame, but again articulate the question: "What will the Church in Canada learn from this?" And more importantly, is it mature enough to WANT to learn anything from this, and find ways to respond in a humble, godly and redeeming way. Disillusionment and shock should not be a permanent state... because there are going to be a lot of hurting and devastated people out there.
In my opinion, TMC new guard should find ways to minister to these, and not try to just move on (not that it's their expressed intent, I'm just saying...).

I can only hope you are right Andre.
Unfortunately, this has not been my experience through the many years I've been associated with The Victory Church, The Miracle Channel, and The DGC. The party line, at those institutions of thought conversion, has always been, and I suspect will continue to be, admit nothing, deny everything, and restore the fallen to their former position. Whether or not this is good or bad, I could not care less. Except it is a spin to followers of those institutions (viewers/dfonors/congregation) which tend to dismiss the hope of any positive changes to the Spiritual temperature of Canada, (which, by the way, is a frequent favourite phrase oft repeated by Dick). My reasons for becoming involved on this site has always been to expose the liars and to open the eyes of the blind.
As a person who has been within the inner workings, I have always been most hurt by the deceitful practices (false prophetic, faulty discernment, profits over prophets, and the discounting of the laity's Spiritual gifts if it differs from the leaders) to which the faithful are falling victim.
Speaking up/out is good! Yet, how can we make the blind see? Will they finally understand that they have been led down the wrong path? I sincerely doubt it, as they will more willing accept the party line. I know first hand how hard it is to accept that you have been fooled. It leaves you feeling empty, shamed, embarrased, and without direction.

It seems that during the past few years while Dick has spent considerably effort speaking against same sex marriage, he has forgotten about the sanctity of his own.

I agree with you Yakach.
So, are we to conclude that, in Dick's mind, homosexual relations are less preferable to adulteress relations? Or obversely, that it is better to sin by adultery, than it is to sin by homosexuality?! I suspect God does not mitigate degrees of wrong between the two sins. If you are still checking, what do you figure Peter?

Personally, I think that would be diverting the attention from what is already apparent. Some may need to dig out some things in order to feel validated or process, and that's OK. But I would suggest we resist the temptation to take cheap shots? After the first shock and the knee jerk reaction of indignation, I feel we can move beyond indulging in stomping the fallen...

No shock and indignation on my behalf, just confirmation and affirmation of my own discernment, as I have suspected the truth regarding this matter for a very long time and shared my concerns with the leadership at DGC 3 years ago.

LastSpike: I totally understand... I'm sure there will be a lot of notes comparisons as many look back and identify signs they noticed, and others will now notice the signs they should have heeded. It would be a rich and fruitful exercise in fact.

At approximately 6:08 pm Global News in Lethbridge reported, and subsequently confirmed, the extra-marital affair Dick Deweert was involved in with a former MC employee as alluded to by an insider at Victory Church Lethbridge. As sad as this is to the members of Deweert's family, I also consider how the many employees of the MC must feel about the life of lies of their leader in whom they placed their trust. As well, what of the deceit he portrayed to the congregation of DGC; not to mention the national ridicule his wife now faces.
I will say more later, yet suffice for now to conclude with how happy I am that God granted me the insight to see what so many others were blinded from seeing. I thank Him for removing my family and myself from any connection to this man or his organization long before the fish hit the pan.
My family will bear no shame of association with the deceitful and adulterous Dick Deweert.

It's now public. I'm again hoping the Church in Lethbridge, and mostly leaders, will rise up and take into account the many lessons here. Although I don't expect much from the Church leadership anymore in that regards, I'm still hopeful that this time around they will be looking at this square in the face and call things by the name we, the people, call them. I have enough of denial and putting out God's much needed fires, through the use of political maneuvering and self-preservation. I feel it's like treating us like we can't handle anything real...
How are we supposed to grow out of the Christian Hollywood if we are not invited to voice our views and discernments? Much grief could have been avoided in this case...

Yes Andre I agree! I also discern that by the Ray Block danced around the issue we will not be seeing any real changes coming to the MC under his stewardship as the figurehead posing in front of the Deweerts and their many family members still employed and quite evidently in control at the MC.

Unfortunately there will be those who continue to bury their heads in the sand. Instead of standing up for what is right, they prefer to remain silent and further propagate this type of problem in the church. Instead of following the unaltered Word of God, they chose to support leaders who lead them astray. This, in turn, does nothing to prevent others from falling into the same snare that these leaders set for themselves. Since, as sheep, they instinctively and unquestionable follow the shepherd, learning by his words and ways. Personally I had felt something was wrong at the DGC and the MC for quite some time. I hope all those who read this realize because Dick veered away from preaching the pure gospel of Christ, instead choosing to make scriptures fit what he wanted them to say rather than what they were intended to say (in the context they were written and relating to the time they were written) that he opened himself up for sin to come into his life. Something we must all guard ourselves against.

The Miracle Channel has released a public statement on their web site concerning Dick and Joan's resignation. Here is a copy of it:
May 22, 2007
Dear Miracle Channel Partner;
For more than eleven years the Miracle Channel has proclaimed the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ through media. The television signal has expanded across Canada and has been and continues to be a source of hope and encouragement to many viewers. The mandate of the Miracle Channel Association to change the spiritual climate of the nations through Christian media remains the vision of this ministry. We are thankful that God raised up a couple to begin this ministry and appreciate the years of commitment and service of co-founders Dick and Joan Dewert.
This is why it makes it very difficult to write this letter to you. The Miracle Channel Association has accepted the resignation of its president, Dick Dewert. Dick, who co-founded the channel in 1995, has resigned due to an extra-marital relationship with another woman. The Miracle Channel Association does not condone this behaviour and has accepted his resignation.
The association has also accepted the resignation of Joan Dewert, who has resigned in order to stand with her husband. The association has offered assistance for professional marital counselling to the Dewerts to help in the healing of their marriage relationship.
The Miracle Channel Association board of directors has named board chairman Ray Block as Chief Executive Officer who will lead the organization and senior management team. Ray has been a vital part of the station since its inception and has the support of the board of directors and senior management. The Miracle Channel will continue its mandate to broadcast its message of hope through religious television and to reach out to those in need.
Thank you, dear partner and viewer, for your prayers and personal support during this very difficult time. We apologize to you as partners and friends for the disappointment this news brings and position ourselves in a spirit of humility to ask for your forgiveness for any hurt or shame that you or the Body of Christ may experience. We believe that if we walk softly and humbly before the Lord that His mercy will be seen in our land. The ministry of the Miracle Channel is the Lord's and is greater than the failings of any individual. Together we will stand united in the cause for which Christ has called us and will see His kingdom come and His will be done on earth as it is in heaven to the glory of the Father.
Sincerely in Christ's service, The Miracle Channel Association

I find it interesting that Victory church is now publicly distancing themselves from the Miracle Channel since it is no longer popular to be linked to the ministry. However, what they forget is that the Miracle Channels church, Dominion Gateway Centre, which Dick was the apostolic leader of, IS a Victory church.
This will undoubtedly be of great disappointment to the followers of Dick and Joan. The unfortunate part is there will be a great number who will wonder why and may never know the whole truth.
By Dick choosing to live a life in the public eye, he should have known that sooner or later people would begin to question his private "affairs".
